Macon, GA - Injuries once again forced some lineup changes for the Wesleyan College soccer team, who took on soccer power Maryville College on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves ultimately fell to the Scots by a score of 3-0.

Notables:

  • After losing Carlee Dykes to injury during yesterday's match, senior Alyssa Whitford stepped in to play goalkeeper for the entire 90 minutes today, recording 13 saves in the effort.
  • Because they focused primarily on their defensive strategy, the Wolves had limited offensive production with sophomores Cat Pribbenow and Kali Havens recording Wesleyan's only shots on goal today.

Quotable:

Wesleyan head coach Paige Hightower remarked, "We knew going into today's match that we needed to focus on our defense given all our injuries.  In the first half, we left a player unmarked and they touched one in at close range, and then later in the half, we had an unfortunate foul which gave them a penalty kick that they converted on. Even so, we were happy to hold Maryville to two goals as they had a constant rotation of 23 players coming in and out of the game. Unfortunately, we lost two players to injury at halftime and were forced to play the second half a man down.  However, the group of 10 that were on the fireld dug in and played their hearts out, allowing only one goal in the second half."
