Montgomery, AL - The Wesleyan College soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to USA South opponent Huntingdon College by a score of 2-0.   After holding the Hawks scoreless through the first 45 minutes, the Wolves gave up two second half goals.

Notables:

  • The Hawks controlled the tempo for much of the game, allowing Wesleyan only one shot in the match.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Carlee Dykes recorded 10 saves as the Hawks fired off 27 shots (12 on goal).
  • Wesleyan was forced to juggle its lineup due to injuries and played a game plan focused on a defensive formation.

Quotable:

"Despite the loss, I am extremely proud of our team and give them so much credit for playing as well as they did today," stated Wesleyan head coach Paige Hightower. "The injuries on our team are piling up, but these girls gutted it out and played as hard as they physically could. Unfortunately, Huntingdon outlasted us and was able to get a couple of balls past our defense. Regardless, Carlee [Dykes] played another phenomenal game in goal for us and has given us a chance to win every time we have played this year."
