Macon, GA - Piedmont College used full court defensive pressure and a 27 point second quarter outburst to give the Lions a commanding lead over Wesleyan College that they would not relinquish on Saturday afternoon. The Lions would go on to win the USA South matchup by a score of 80-47.

Notables:

  • Taylor Thigpen, Bree Raymond and Lexie Russell each scored double figures for the Wolves and combined for 31 of Wesleyan's 47 points.
  • Justice Thigpen remains the picture of consistency for Wesleyan with another big day. She finished the day with eight points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a blocked shot.
  • Seventeen Piedmont athletes saw playing time in today's game with 12 putting points on the board.

Quotable:

Wesleyan head coach Nicky DiMarzio stated, "We came out with energy and enthusiasm today. We played a great first quarter and then got into some foul trouble early on. We didn't take care of the ball as well as we could have and that really hurt us against their press, which resulted in them scoring some easy buckets. I thought we responded well after the half and cut their lead to 12, but again, fouls plagued us as Lexie picked up her fifth, which deflated our momentum. Two big quarters for Piedmont while we were forced to sit some of our starters did us in today. We need to be able to play smarter defensively and we have to put the ball in the hole offensively tommorow against Salem."
