Macon, GA - The Wesleyan College basketball team must have felt as though everything that Covenant threw at the basket was going in on Friday night, because the Scots shot an unprecedented 56.4% from the field in a 78-62 win over the Wolves at Porter Gymnasium. The Scots built their lead in the first half, when they shot 62% from the floor, but Wesleyan played even with them 35-35 in the second half.

Notables:

  • Once again, the Wolves were led by another consistent performance by Justice Thigpen, who continues to stack the stat line. She scored 14 points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out eight assists, and swiped six steals on defense in 39 minutes of action.
  • Freshman Bre Raymond just missed out on a double-double with 14 points and nine boards to go along with two assists and four steals.
  • Despite the outcome, Wesleyan shot the ball well on offense, hitting 35% from the field, and forced the Scots into 22 turnovers, which was five more than the Wolves recorded.

Quotable:

Wesleyan head basketball coach Nicky DiMarzio stated, "We fought hard today against a very disciplined Covenant team. I thought we played smart offensively and that showed in our shooting percentage. Justice brought life to the team on both ends of the court, but Covenant was knocking down tough, contested shots all game long. They are a tremendous shooting team, but tonight was a whole different story with the shots they were knocking down."
