Winston-Salem, NC - For the third consecutive game, the Wesleyan College basketball team dropped a close USA South matchup after being forced to foul in the final minutes of the game. Today, the Wolves trailed by three points in the fourth quarter before Salem College stretched that lead to a 59-49 final.

Notables:

  • Freshman Bree Raymond led the Wesleyan offense by scoring a team-high 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor. She also pulled down four rebounds and blocked two shots for the Wolves.
  • For the second consecutive game, senior Justice Thigpen recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with an impressive seven assists and eight steals.
  • The Wolves forced Salem into 22 turnovers with a strong defensive game plan, but the Spirits held a 48-33 advantage on the boards that created the difference in the game.

Quotable:

Following the game, Wesleyan head coach Nicky DiMarzio stated, "We played a tough game today against Salem but fatigue showed on the offensive end. We missed some open looks and lay ups, and were front rimming shots. I thought we did a nice job defensively, fought hard, and gave ourselves a chance to win today, but once again, we were forced to foul late in the game and Salem hit their free throws to seal the game."
