LaGrange, GA - The Wesleyan College basketball team couldn't slow the hot handed shooting of the LaGrange College Panthers on Saturday afternoon, falling 71-33 in their USA South opener.

Notables:

  • Freshman Bree Raymond scored a game high 11 points, and sophomore Lexie Russell pulled down a game high 10 boards for the Wolves.
  • LaGrange shot a red hot 48.1% from the floor while holding the Wolves to just 20.4%, and 14 of 15 Panthers who earned playing time scored in the game.

Quotable:

"We came out flat today against LaGrange and dug a whole for ourselves in the first half," remarked Wesleyan head coach Nicky DiMarzio. "LaGrange forced us to play quite a bit quicker than we've had to with their length and athleticism and that disrupted our offensive flow. We turned the ball over too much and put them on the free throw line too many times.

"This is typical of what we are going to see in conference play and this experience will help us moving forward. This weekend is going to be a learning weekend for us, and we need to come ready to compete. It's a quick turnaround to play Huntingdon tomorrow, but now that we've seen the speed, depth, and talent of a top notch conference team, we can build moving forward."

"I thought Lex had a great game on the boards, and Nadia gave us a physical post presence contributing in many ways today."
