Pensacola, FL - The Wesleyan College basketball team fell to Pensacola Christian College 71-61 on Saturday evening despite an improved offensive performance and a season-high scoring output.

Notables:

  • Newcomer Lexie Russell recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds (seven offensive) to go along with two blocks.
  • Senior Alyssa Whitford went 3-for-6 from three point range for nine points in 21 minutes of action.
  • Sophomore Taylor Thigpen led all scorers in the game with 13 points.

Quotable:

Wesleyan head coach Nicky DiMarzio stated, "We finally put the ball in the hoop today and had better offensive producation. Lexie [Russell] was big on the glass and Alyssa Whitford extended the defense by knocking down shots from three-point range. We played much better in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter, but we had dug ourselves too deep a hole in the first quarter to bounce back. Pensacola's bigs down low were extremely tough for us to defend today and that really proved to be the difference tonight."
