Macon, GA - Despite outperforming Mary Baldwin in nearly every statistical category, the Wesleyan College basketball team could not buy a bucket in a shaky offensive performance, ultimately falling to the Fighting Squirrels 43-42 on Saturday afternoon.

  • Wesleyan pulled down a season high 28 offensive rebounds and forced Mary Baldwin into 28 turnovers while picking up 17 steals; however, the Wolves shot only 20.5% from the field, which marked the difference in the game.
  • After scoring only two points in the first quarter, Wesleyan battled back over the remainder of the game and had several chances in the final minute to take the lead.
  • Senior Justice Thigpen stacked the stat line with nine points, 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals, while freshman Bree Raymond recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, and four steals.

"Today's loss is really tough to accept," remarked Wesleyan head coach Nicky DiMarzio. "We played tremendous defense and followed the lead of Q[uenshawn] Brandon, who was a big spark for us off the bench throughout the game. We hit the offensive boards, we had great looks at the hoop, and we took more shots than I think we ever have, but we simply could not put the ball in the hole. We outplayed Mary Baldwin in almost every aspect of the game, but when you continue to miss open shots and layups, it is once again going to be a long afternoon."

"We dug a hole early and fought back out of it. We made stops in the last minute of the game and had multiple opportunities where our defense created our offense, but we just couldn't close it out down the stretch."
