Macon, GA - The Wesleyan College Department of Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Nicole DiMarzio as its next women's basketball coach. In addition to her coaching duties, she will also lead the department's strength and conditioning program.
"I could not be more excited to join the Wesleyan Athletic Department and campus community as the next head women's basketball coach and strength and conditioning coordinator," remarked DiMarzio. "I look forward to developing a lasting, championship culture and will strive to mentor scholar student athletes in their pursuit of excellence in the classroom, on the court, and as role models in our community. As I enter this new role, I am appreciative to Dean Gibbs and her passionate, dedicated athletics staff for the opportunity to become part of the Wolves family and the bright future of this program."
A native of East Brookfield, MA, DiMarzio joins the Wesleyan family after spending the 2013-14 season as the head basketball coach at Holyoke Community College, a NJCCA program in Holyoke, MA. Prior to her stint with the Cougars, she served as an assistant coach for Mount Holyoke College for four seasons and Clark University for one season.
A 2007 graduate of Skidmore College, DiMarzio earned her B.S. in Exercise Science before getting her M.S.Ed. in Sport Pedagogy with a concentration in Sport Pyschology from Baylor University in 2008. While at Skidmore, she was a member of the Thoroughbred basketball team, even serving as a student assistant coach for the 2006-07 season.
"The Wesleyan College Athletic Department is trilled to add Coach DiMarzio to our team," remarked Athletics Director, Patty Gibbs. "Her academic and coaching experience will be a benefit both on and off the court. Having coached at another women's college in the Northeast, she is prepared to take our program and our players to the next level of competitiveness in our conference. With at least seven returning players and five new recruits, she will have some experienced players to build with and grow our basketball program."
DiMarzio will have GSAC All Conference selection Jasmine Davis returning this season to direct the Wolves backcourt and senior forward Krysta Woods to anchor the frontcourt. Coach DiMarzio assumes her position beginning on Wednesday, August 6.
