Atlanta, GA - Perrenial softball powerhouse Emory University, who began the 2017 season ranked fourth in the nation, lived up to the hype on Sunday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from Wesleyan College by scores of 9-1 and 13-1.

Notables:

  • The Wolves were first on the scoreboard in both games. In the day's first game, senior captain Claire Crawford singled to left field in the first inning to drive in Tiffani Linville, who reached base on an Emory error. In the second game of the day, junior Alana Walker also singled to left field, once again driving in Linville, who reached on a fielder's choice.
  • Crawford led the Wolves at the plate with a 2-for-5 outing and 1 RBI over the course of the day.
  • Despite the lopsided score in Game 2, the Wolves only recorded two strikeouts versus the nine they saw in Game 1. They also increased their hits from one in Game 1 to four in Game 2.

Quotable:

Wesleyan head softball coach Dickey Hightower remarked, "Our first game today was not a bad outing. We played well, but Emory hit it really well and drove in runs. Our second game got a little out of hand, but I still don't think we played too badly. We have work to do, but we will continue to get better and I feel good about the direction we are heading."
