Macon, GA - The 2016 Great South Athletic Conference Spring Championship brackets have been set, and the Wesleyan College softball team has earned the No. 2 seed while the tennis team will be the No. 5 seed. With Wesleyan serving as hosts once again this year, the GSAC Championship will be held at the Mathews Athletic Complex on campus.
The Wolves softball team will open tournament play on Friday morning at 9:30am, facing off against No. 3 Agnes Scott College. Wesleyan went 3-1 during the regular season against the Scotties, outscoring them 21-9 over the course of four games. They will look to senior pitcher Mellissa Webb to control the game from the circle by adding to her GSAC best season total of 151 strikeouts. The Wolves will also rely on the bats of sisters Jema and Bela Bravo as well as Victoria Clower, Tiffani Linville, and Ashley Bush to set the tone for a consistent offensive effort.
The softball championship is a four team double elimination tournament. No. 1 Salem College will take on No. 4 Mount Mary Univeristy on Friday at 11:30am with two more games to follow at 1:30pm and 3:30pm. Saturday's action opens with a game at 10:00am, and the Championship game will follow at 12:30pm with the If Necessary game slated for 3:00pm.
Wesleyan's tennis team will open their tournament play against No. 4 Salem College at 9:00am on Friday morning. The Wolves went 0-2 against the Spirits during the regular season but did earn points in both matches. Samaria Spencer-Hall won both of her matches at the No. 6 singles position during the regluar season, and the Wolves had multiple matches that were neck and neck in which they came up just short.
The tennis championship is a five team single elimination tournament. No. 2 Agnes Scott College will take on No. 3 Mills College on Friday at 11:30am with No. 1 seed UC Santa Cruz awaiting the winner of the Wesleyan/Salem match at 2:00pm. Saturday will open with a consolation match at 9:00am and the Championship match will follow at 11:30am.
